Bank of England's staff gym lockers not accepting new £1 coins Despite the new 12 sided coin becoming legal tender nearly a month ago on March 28, the gym has been forced to put signs up telling members to carry on using the old coins. One member of staff at the Bank of England Sports Centre in Roehampton, south west London said: “You’d think that the Bank of England would have thought about this. The club boasts a pool, gym, tennis courts as well as an indoor centre for volleyball, badminton, netball, basketball and indoor football as well as three squash courts, table tennis tables and a snooker room.
